Excursion to Bhangarh from Jaipur (Half day)

At the edge of the Sariska forest in Rajasthan lie’s the town of Bhangarh whose haunted status is attracting scores of excursions. Known for its ruins, Bhangarh is also a pre-historic site. Legend states that the city of Bhangarh was cursed.

The story goes that this sixteenth century town was home to a magician. He fell in love with the kingdom's beautiful princess, Rani Ratnawati. Knowing that he would never be allowed to go near her, he decided to use his dark powers to seduce her. He spotted the princess's maid buying oil and cast a spell on the oil. If the spell worked, on touching the oil, the princes would surrender to him.

Locals say that the princess, who was proficient in the occult herself, soon sensed his evil plan and foiled it. She threw the flagon of oil away,  here upon it fell on a stone. As soon as the oil touched the stone, it started rolling towards the magician and crushed him. But before dying he cursed the palace with the death of all who dwelt in it, without the possibility of rebirth.

That might be more legend than fact, but Bhangarh is still a charming ruin to visit. Even today, a walk to the palace through the remains of what once used to be a bustling town is a beautiful affair.

You will be picked from your hotel in the morning at around 0800-0830 by Toyoto Innova car and driven to Ramgarh, about 28 kms from Jaipur. The first stop at this excursion is a visit to Jamwa Mata temple at Ramgarh. This temple is located at down streams of Ramgarh Lake, a devotional shrine for whole of the kachwaha clan of Jaipur.

The next stop will be at Bhangarh where we will tour the place on foot, a unique way to explore the ruins which will take about an hour and a half.

After the visit to Bhangarh we will take you to a nearby village for a visit where you can explore it with its narrow walk ways and shops. Spend some reflective time with the local people; watch the women make the Indian bread on earthen kilns while the men graze their cattle, watch potters and cobblers in action, you could also visit a local school.

Next you will be driven to the Kableshwar fort, where over lunch, with the nobles of the erstwhile state of Jaipur you will get an opportunity to listen to the tales, by your host, of the people and lifestyle of the bygone era, a perfect end to the tour which will leave lasting impressions.

You will be back into your hotel rooms by afternoon, just in time for that siesta.

* The excursion is very flexible and can be customized according to clients’ enthusiasm and energy levels.
