Overview

Day 1: Arrive from Jodhpur and transfer to hotel. Overnight stay.

Day 2: Ride 12kms through scrubland past the hamlets of the Bishnoi tribe, the eco conservationists of the desert, who would die protecting an animal, which is why you get to see herds of Blackbucks and the Indian gazelle in plenty in the areas they inhabit. Return for lunch, overnight at the same resort.

Day 3: Early morning ride 28kms through sandy tracks and scrubland, passing through quaint hamlets of mud huts occupied by various colorfully clad tribes of the desert. Lunch at a splendid palace situated at the edge of a huge lake on a hill overlooking miles of open land around you. Relax in the evening at the luxurious Palace in its comfortable rooms. Enjoy bird watching on the Lake. Overnight stay.

Day 4: Ride off after an early breakfast through open scrubland, along dusty trails, passing through villages. After a 22kms ride we stop for a picnic lunch prepared on site. In the evening we start getting into greener tracts, skirting the huge Hemawas Dam, until sunset. A 23kms ride. Overnight stay at a beautiful country mansion.

Day 5: Another long day-another early start. Ride 18kms through farms and bigger villages. Watch the landscape change from dry thorny scrub of the first two days to taller trees and rich fertile farmlands. You will see the multifarious use of oxen in ploughing, carting and irrigation. Arrive at an old Shiva Temple for lunch. Ride on after lunch for 20kms and we start getting into low hillocks and open grassland. By evening we are at an ancient 200year old castle in the middle of a small rustic shepherd’s village. The castle has been provided with modern amenities. Overnight stay.

Day 6: Ride off after breakfast to the Muthana Bird Lake and then dismount at a point close by to transfer into jeeps. Arrive for lunch at a retreat, a 25kms ride from your start point. In the evening drive 4kms by jeeps to visit the famous Temple of Ranakpur. The huge structure is made out of marble. Intricately carved deities adorn the pillars, domes and walls of this awe inspiring structure. Return to the horses at a cottage complex. Overnight stay.

Day 7: We now ride 18kms along the periphery of the Kumbhalgarh game reserve through the Aravalli Hills until we come into a valley inhabited by the local tribes. We have lunch at a crocodile dam. The challenging part of the ride begins in the evening. We climb 2000ft in 3 hrs, through the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary to arrive at a jungle resort which is a 12kms ride. Later visit the famous Kumbhalgarh Fort built in 1462AD. This Fort has a history of many battles and remains as probably the only unconquered Fort. Overnight stay at the luxurious jungle resort.

Day 8: End of safari. Depart for Udaipur.
